In search of a new and different concept/food offering it was in Australia back in 2001 that we stumbled upon one of the country's culinary secrets....the great Australian Jaffle pie.
The Aussie pie 'culture' is well documented and most visitors to the country will have delighted in one of the many pie offers available; regaling tales of high meat content, lack of gristle and fillings other than steak & kidney.
With this in mind we set out to develop our own gourmet Jaffle pie store, which would combine quality, Jaffle pies, together with more conventional cafe products. As a consequence Jumbuck's The Aussie Pie Co. was born and the first store opened in Bournemouth in August 2003.
Other flavours
One thing that remains consistent with all our products is quality. Our baguettes, pastries and cookies are freshly baked/made each day. Juices are squeezed from fresh fruit and the coffee is our own blend, ground in Italy. Even
our chips are made from real potatoes and cooked freshly throughout the day.
With an emphasis on speedy service, the stores are designed to minimise staffing requirements, without compromising on delivering freshly made products quickly. Not only does the customer benefit, so do our franchisees, by having more control in generating better margins over bought in pre-made products.
What are we looking for?
Although we look for people with the drive to work hard for themselves, the most important quality is a desire to put
smiles on customers' faces. It doesn't matter what your background as our methods and systems ensure you'll have
the necessary tools to run an efficient business. You will generally need to be prepared to work in the store yourself as this is the best way to ensure the business is run efficiently. You will require some start-up capital, although we can point you in the direction of bankers who can assess your situation and provide the best advice, if necessary.
What to expect from us
Ultimately you get a partner to help with each step of the process, from your first cup of coffee with us to the sale of your first Jaffle Pie and beyond. We can provide advice and guidance in areas such as health & safety, local council requirements, lease negotiations (in some instances we may negotiate leases in prime areas and sublet to you), recruitment, accounting, business analysis, site fit-out (we have shop-fitters to complete the job to our specifications) and marketing. We even help with ordering your initial stock and arrange your grand opening. As part of the training, we'll work with you in your store until you're happy to go it alone it's a bit like having training wheels on your first bike; we won't take them off until you're ready! Importantly, you're buying into a system that's been tried and tested to enable you to run a great business although we're always keen to hear any ideas that might be beneficial; nothing's set in stone.
Some idea of cost
The following is based on indicative costs as the size and location of the site may infl uence the final figure. These costs cover everything you'll need to get yourself in business nothing is hidden. They include the franchise fee, full training (in our store and during your opening period), initial stock, full fit-out and an opening promotion.
High street model with seating
This model is designed to seat around 20-25 and sells a full range of products. Generally we would be looking for
streets with busy passing trade. Prices from £70k.
Kiosk model
Ideal for small locations, Universities, food halls, stations etc, the kiosks offer a reduced product range focusing on the Jaffles, pastries, cold drinks and coffee. Prices from £25k.
Walk in, walk out model
Generally selling a full range of products, this model doesn't have any seating, although a bench-seat may be
incorporated if room permits. This enables slightly smaller sites to be utilised, particularly where high footfall
and busy people exist. Prices from £55k.

With such a range of Jaffle Pies and baguettes, catering provides a great opportunity for growing your business.

Deliveries to the local football club provide an ideal opportunity!
